The honest architectural design of spa 28.08550 is located in Tapalpa (Jalisco). The architectural studio VAN VAN Atelier has created a multifunctional, recreational, rest and contemplation space. In this way, sensations of tranquillity and peace can be perceived. The primary aspect of the interiors was the constant search for privacy, necessary according to the space and its use.
The project uses stone as an elemental anchor, primarily on the façade. It can also be seen in the interiors in a contemplative way. This is where its name comes from: spa 28.08550 – the atomic weight of silicon – the basis of most stones found in nature.
The indoor swimming pool space blends in with the landscape thanks to the versatility of the Bottega Caliza porcelain tile (PORCELANOSA). Timeless and versatile, this model unifies flooring and wall tiles, achieving a warm and contemporary interior design. The water areas: swimming pool, jacuzzi, or steam room, have been designed with the same model in a non-slip finish.

One of the most complex tasks was the artisan work of carving and laying the stone on the façade. The cutting of the porcelain tiles was also considered in order to give a unique character to each space.
The interior flooring – Bottega Caliza – blends in with the furniture, achieving an excellent aesthetic continuity. At the same time, the lighting design accentuates the exposed material. The light from the interior garden highlights the textures used in the different rooms, such as the sauna and the exterior structure.

The project fuses traditional Japanese architecture with Mexican vernacular architecture, leaving out superfluous details. The result: an honest, simple and functional design. The successful harmony between architecture and interior design of spa 28.08550, allowed them to win the ‘Best Design of the Year’ award at the XV Porcelanosa Awards.
